No Longer Small and Chic?

This post has been in the works for quite some time. I'm a "small living" enthusiast. I lived in a 785 square foot condo for 8 years. What am I doing in this big house?

Back when we were looking for homes, I was drawn towards the smaller ones. I remember saying that a few of them "felt appropriate in size." They were bigger than the condo, but not too much bigger. They'd allow us to have people over more comfortably than before, but weren't set up for hordes of visitors. Marc was drawn to larger homes and larger plots of land. In an ideal world, he'll have vast stretches of land. The compromise was something in the middle. So we nixed a few of the really large homes and therefore didn't bump up against the top of our budget.

Where does that leave the blog? Several people have flippantly said "what are you going to name the blog" after seeing our house. I don't think changing the name is so easily done. This blog has been around for five years and in blog years, that's a pretty long time. When the blog veered into wedding stuff, it was still right here at smallchichome.com. I don't think I want to abandon it.

I'm still a lover of small spaces, even if my new home isn't small. While I'll still blog about projects here, I'll also include small living topics. I have been thinking of changing the name on the blog header, but the URL isn't going anywhere.

I hope you'll stay with me!

  2. When I think of small living I don't necessarily think of a small house - it brings to mind more modest living, especially in a culture where we still place a lot of value on living large. You're not living in a small condo anymore, but you're also not in one of the giant McMansions that seem to plaster my Pinterest feed. I think Small & Chic still fits quite well :)

    1. Good point. This definitely isn't a McMansion!

  3. A brand is a hard thing to change and probably not worth it, in this situation. You can make it work for the new space. Either way I'll read. :)

    1. I have always had my foot in two names anyway...some people call this Small Chic Home and others say Small and Chic. What's another name? Kidding.

  6. Is your house really that big? I think of a big house I think of 3000 sq ft and upwards. I'm sure people who are living in 5000 sq ft homes would think your house is fairly small. I guess it's all in perspective.

    1. It's just over 2800 square feet, which feels pretty big for just two people after living in a 785 square foot condo. :)

      It's all relative, of course.

    2. Interestingly, I just googled our address and found different square foot numbers on different websites, none of which were correct. I bet some are just old since there are two additions.
