MLS Photo of the Day

I can't help but take a look at the new MLS listings on the weekends.  I'm going to list the condo in the near future and I think it's interesting to see what's on the market fairly regularly.

There's a great local website that allows easy browsing of new listings and I recently found one that made me a little sad for the owners.  There were just four images on the listing.  One was of a swing set in the yard and the others were exterior shots.  All of the shots were taken from roughly the same area.

I assumed that the listing would say something about more photos coming soon, but instead, there was no write up.  The "remarks" section of the listing was totally empty.

I really hope the sellers check their listing and get this corrected.  I don't know what a real estate agent's job is like, but I know what listings catch my eye and make me imagine myself in a home.  Three exterior shots and a swing set don't do it for me and I'll be a buyer at some point in the future.

When you look at real estate listings, what catches your eye?  If there was something you could make every listing have, what would it be?

  1. I got word from an agent that this is not a foreclosure or short sale. The plot thickens!

  2. I see this all the time in Los Angeles; it's probably a short sale or bank-owned and the original homeowners are not cooperating. Unlikely it's a problem with the agent.

  3. I'm a very picture-oriented person. If listings don't have multiple pictures of the inside and outside of the property, I move on. We'll be looking for a house hopefully within the next two years but we still look for fun pretty often. We also like to just drive around our town looking for "For Sale" signs and Open Houses.

  4. We've been looking for a house since May and we run into listings like this all the time! Some don't have any pictures at all! I can't imagine how an agent or seller expects to draw anyone in to looking at the house without pictures. As sometimes the listing will have just 1 or 2 interior pictures of a bedroom but there is so much more to a house than the bedrooms. If I had my way, I'd require all listings to have pictures of every major room in the house!

  5. ... and it's been on the market for 10 days ...

There is an agent note, but nothing descriptive about the property. The photos from the last time it was on the market show that it's a nice house.

(and the MLS doesn't reflect that it's bank owned or short sale)

  6. Usually when listings have no interior shots it's because the home is either short saled or bank-owned, and therefore the current occupants are not thrilled about their home being listed for sale. It's fairly common in Seattle to see many listings with no interior shots and it usually points and a rough situation for the current owner or tenant.
