The J. Crew Liquidation Sale is back!

You know that Staples commercial where the father dances through the aisles to "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" as he throws school supplies in his cart?  That's how I'm feeling right now.

It's time for the J. Crew Liquidation Sale to return to Charlottesville!  We're only an hour away from the factory, which has fantastic sales like this fairly regularly, but who can pass up all that great merchandise being trucked up here so we can pick through it close to home?

Here are the details:

J. Crew Liquidation Sale
300 Shoppers World Court
(the old Whole Foods store)

Friday, August 19, 2011
8:00 AM - 8:00 PM

Saturday, August 20, 2011 - Monday, September 5, 2011
10:00 AM - 8:00 PM

They will have men's, women's, and children's clothing.

Now, there's some strategy involved in going to the sale.  First of all, they tend to put out new items twice per week, so there will probably be totally new merchandise there a few times during the sale.  Second, they tend to add discounts during the final days.  Last year, I think they added a 20% discount to entire purchases on the last two days.  They will not be offering a student or faculty discount.

So, while it's tempting to go nuts on the first day you go, pace yourself.  If you see a lot of something, go back a few days later to see if there's an additional discount being given.

This commercial is from 1996. Can you believe it? It still makes me laugh.

  1. YAY!  Thanks for posting, Jeannine!

  2. Love that commercial! Do you remember an even older one that played the song "See You In September"? I think that was Stapes too.

  3.  I just read your post and thought "woohoo!"  because Ryan and I are swinging through C-Ville Friday on our way to our cabin vacay.  Then I thought "oh no" becuase I remembered I don't buy clothes new unless the company has a good social responsibility / anti sweatshop approach.

Well I decided to look up J Crew just for fun - and was thrilled to find that they seem to be more ahead of the game than most mall retailers!  (

So I will be begging Ryan to tolerate the sale for just a bit. :)  Thanks so much for posting!!

  4. What a great tip!  I can't wait to check it out!  Was there a big crowd the last time? I'm wondering if I should be prepared to hip bump people out of the way... haha, just kidding.  I am very excited about this, I didn't know such an amazing event was happening in cville! Thanks for sharing!

  5. Thanks for posting! I reposted the main info, but linked back to your article. I am in Boston, but I hope my DC area readers can take advantage of the sale!
