Happy First Friday!

It's First Friday in Charlottesville and that is a big day for local artists and galleries. My friend Senem, who is married to a photographer, suggested that I share this new campaign with all of you.

Buying local is a hot topic these days, but I imagine most people think about meat and produce when the concept is mentioned. Perhaps they also think about patronizing independent stores instead of chains. I'm not sure people think about buying local art.

Even if you don't have an event like First Friday, when people gallery hop around town, consider looking for a local artist the next time you have to buy a gift or are looking for something new for your walls.

I thought it might be fun to have a First Friday of sorts on the blog. If you have a favorite artist from your area, post a link to their website, blog, or online store in the comments. I think this might be fun!

  1. I sell all my art locally as well but surely one day I will jump on the Etsy wagon. I think it's great supporting local artist!

  2. This one isn't local for me, but if anyone is in the Sorrento, ME area, Lili and her husband do beautiful raku pottery. http://fearlessnesting.blogspot.com/
