What happened to just carving a pumpkin?

Get out your...I don't know what implement would be needed to do this, but apparently, we're all supposed to be shaving designs into our pumpkins this year.

Has anyone tried this? Is anyone going to attempt it?

  1. I was absolutely going to buy about 10 of the overpriced Northern Virginia pumpkins and spend hours - no, days - shaving intricate designs into them. But I was going to do better than Martha, and use a laser beam to etch them. It's a must, you see, for I have more fall cocktail parties and dinners than Martha has craft ideas.

Nope. I like a good ole'fashioned carved pumpkin. And with the prices charged for them, I think we'll just get two.

  2. No chance. I only buy the pie pumpkins and don't carve them because I need them intact for cooking. Right now, they're scattered around the front porch and other spots at decorative touches; next month I'll start cooking them into pumpkin puree.

  3. Wouldn't they rot really quickly? Or are you supposed to spray/lacquer them?

  6. I saw that on my Better Homes magazine when I got it. I think it looks pretty, but who has the time to spend on it? I'll stick to the normal pumpkin carving.

  10. This is actaully easier (for me at least) I feel like carving requires a lot more precision. The scraping is a lot easier to do. If you make a mistake you can just change up the design a little.
