Urban chicken keeping

I hope you'll entertain one last Preservation Piedmont post. One of the stops on the tour was something that a few of the families involved share.

The chickens seemed perfectly nice when we visited them, but according to Gillian of Dried Figs and Woolen Spools, there were some conflicts among the ladies of the coop. A few have moved on.

Regardless of how you feel about urban chicken keeping, you'll be charmed by the pictures of these hens that Gillian took over the last few months.

  1. I love this! My mom is dying to have chickens, but I don't think their HOA in C'ville will allow that. :)

  2. Awesome!!!
I so much want to have chickens, but Ryan doesn't think it's a good idea in our current neighborhood, and also our landlord may not be a fan. Sigh.

  3. My sister has chickens and guineas (and a couple of goats too) there is C'ville. It's always interesting to hear about the drama in the chicken yard. There really is a pecking order! I love to visit because she usually sends me home with some eggs too.
