Preservation Peidmont Home Tour is this weekend!

If you're in Central Virginia, don't for get that this Saturday, October 9th is the first day of the Preservation Piedmont Home Tour!

Preservation Piedmont is a group that aims to preserve historic buildings, sites, and neighborhoods around the region. This Saturday's tour will take us into nine homes in the residential area just north of the Downtown Mall (where many of the wonderful stores I've profiled are located). Homes in this area are often on the garden tours or were used in Junior League tours, but many of the homes on the Preservation Piedmont tour have never been open to visitors in this way before.

Gillian, who writes Dried Figs and Wooden Spools, is one of the generous people welcoming visitors this weekend. You've probably seen her kitchen on Design Sponge and on Apartment Therapy.

Gillian and her husband poured those cement counter tops themselves!

On Sunday, October 10th, there will be a second tour of a different neighborhood called Fry's Spring. This neighborhood has an eclectic mix of houses and four will be open for tours. Tours end with a reception at the Fry's Spring Beach Club.

Tickets for the tour are $20 for Saturday and $15 for Sunday. They can be purchased on the Preservation Piedmont website or in person at New Dominion Bookshop or Greenberry's at Barracks Road.

Don't forget that this weekend is also Martha's Market at John Paul Jones Arena! This is a huge shopping event with vendors coming from all over the country (that's a PDF of all the vendors) to sell goods and help raise money for Martha Jefferson Hospital. The event goes from Friday to Sunday. Admission is something like $5.

  1. thank you!! i'm working saturday, but might go on sunday!!!

  2. That kitchen is gorgeous! Sounds like a good time, too bad I'm not in the area :(

  3. Excited about Martha's Market - we need to get together with Gina and figure out a plan!

  4. You're so sweet to post that! We're excited for the tour! Now if only the rest of the house were as finished as the kitchen... :)
