Back to the table

Remember all the pretty china I fawned over back in June? I was thinking of selling my half set of discontinued Villeroy & Boch china and buying a full set to replace it. I was tired of only having four plates.

I wound up ordering what I thought were some white plates from Bloomingdale's, but the set that came was more gray than white and several plates were chipped or warped. Bloomingdale's credited me for the return and said UPS would pick the box up. That never happened. I've made a few attempts to get these things out of here and I'm hoping that one last call will do the trick.

I started thinking that I might want some really different casual dinnerware and stumbled upon a surprising deal. Macy's is offering a bonus right now...buy a place setting and get a place setting for free. On top of that, I signed up for their emails and got a code for 15% off and free shipping. I have definitely seen the plates I like in the nearest Macy's, so I'm hoping that if anything is damaged in transport, I can just go over and trade in a plate or two for new ones.

It's no surprise that the dishes I like are from the Martha Stewart line. I compared them to another set that is being sold under one of Macy's house brands, but those plates are so huge that they wouldn't even fit in my cabinets. Aren't cabinets pretty standard? Why would a company make plates that can't be put away?

Anyway, here's what I'm about to purchase:

  1. Very chic - I have a personal preference for white dishes as they provide a beautiful frame for the food. Hope Macy's delivery goes smoothly.

  2. What does a girl have to do to just get some simple white plates that work these days!

  4. I am also on the hunt for plain white dishes, but I prefer a round set. I don't know, I guess I'm old fashioned that way. I also need a big deep cereal bowl, so that has turned out to be a deal-breaker in many cases. Why are so many bowls these tiny wimpy things? I need somewhere to put my 2.5 servings of Honey Bunches of Oats!

  6. I like the set! Yeah, I recall you said it was about a 2 hour drive to the store and they were Oneida or something, so not what you thought when you purchased the set from Bloomies! Good luck with getting that huge box out of your hair! :)

  7. Those dishes are fabulous! Our large Pottery Barn plates don't fit in our upper cabinets, we have to store them in the lower ones. Weird.

  8. Love those! Modern, yet elegant.

  9. I completely love those. We have square plates too and for whatever reason I kinda prefer them over round (maybe they're just more space efficient?). We have normal round bowls though so I'm super jealous of your neat "square" bowl find!
