Shop Tour: Pillow Mint

I've been meaning to take a camera into one of the most charming stores in town and I finally got around to it on Saturday. Pillow Mint is a sweet store in the "warehouse district" of downtown Charlottesville (if you're a Dave Matthews freak, the Pink Warehouse is around the corner from the store). As if the name wasn't cool already, owner Anita Davis is a design blogger, which raises the store's cool factor significantly for me.

Let me show you some of the fantastic things that fill the store:

I've admired that John Robshaw greyhound pillow for sooo long!

Look at that beautiful Serena & Lily sling on the right

Pretty sheets in pretty baskets

Gorgeous pillows are literally everywhere in the store! I can't believe I didn't take a shot of the most amazing suzani pillow that's sitting at the front of the store.

Pretty pillows on a ledge that runs the entire length of the store

More Serena & Lilly *drool*

Don't forget to look up! There are paintings and textiles hanging up above, too!

Funky lights with a snowy backdrop

Want to see more? The slide show below contains all of the pictures from my visit on Saturday. If you're thinking about visiting, Saturday mornings are a great time. Charlottesville's farmer's market has turned into a holiday market and next Saturday is the last market for the season. The market is one block north of the warehouse where Pillow Mint is located and there are other home and gift stores within the same neighborhood.

I have to tell you about my first visit to Pillow Mint a few years ago to show you how awesome Anita is. Shortly after she opened, I went in thinking she carried furniture in addition to bedding. I don't know why...maybe because neighboring stores did. When I saw the beautiful mirror that's above the hutch in the very first photo, I asked about it. Anita told me it was just part of the store decor and wasn't an item she actually carried. I was a little sad because I was looking for something to hang over my bed at the time. She actually offered to sell the mirror to me even though it was no longer being made. It was such a kind gesture...one that took me by surprise and so I declined (a good thing because I later found some art for either side of the bed at a local store and decided against hanging something over the middle of the bed).

Pretty cool of her, huh? That kind of stuff doesn't happen at chain stores.
